Planning your shop sign: how it works
- Send a photo and your logo: a straight-on photo of the frontage or wall, one measurement of the area and your logo, ideally as a vector file.
- Free design preview: we place the sign to scale on your photo, so you can see size, position and lighting before anything is made.
- Quote: with dimensions, materials and a firm delivery date.
- Approval and production: nothing is made until you approve.
- Delivery and installation: with fixings and instructions. The mains connection is made by a qualified electrician. If you don't have an installer, we can help you find one near you.
Do shop signs need planning permission?
Often, yes. In England, many shop signs need advertisement consent from your local planning authority, especially illuminated ones, larger signs and anything in a conservation area or on a listed building. If a sign projects over the pavement, a separate licence for the highway may be needed.

Which sign type is right for me?
It comes down to location and effect: outdoors and visible at night – illuminated letters or a lightbox; for people on the pavement – a projecting sign; in reception – a halo-lit logo or flat cut letters. If in doubt, we'll recommend the right option from your photo.
Do I need planning permission for a shop sign?
Often, yes – especially for illuminated signs, larger signs and in conservation areas. Check with your council first; we supply a dimensioned drawing and a visual for your application.
What's the difference between illuminated signs and LED neon?
Illuminated signage is the umbrella term for lit signs such as lightboxes and illuminated letters. LED neon is one type: glowing lines of LED neon flex on acrylic.
Do I need an electrician?
For illuminated signs connected to the mains on the outside of the building, yes. LED neon signs and indoor halo-lit signs come with a plug-in adapter.
Do you install the signs?
As standard you get everything your installer needs. If you don't have one, we can help you find a sign installer near you.
Which files do you need?
Ideally your logo as a vector file (PDF, AI, EPS or SVG) and a straight-on photo of the wall or frontage. A JPG or PNG is fine to get started.
How long does delivery take?
Once you approve your design preview, we confirm a firm delivery date in your quote.
