What makes Flat Cut Letters work
Flat cut letters are characters and logos cut from a solid sheet and mounted a few millimetres off the wall. Without illumination they feel calm and architectural – the classic choice for reception areas, offices, clinics and interiors where the logo should look premium without shouting.

Standard: non-illuminated
Flat cut letters do not light up. They work through material, shadow and a small gap to the wall.
Upgradeable to halo

From about 3 cm letter height, depending on the typeface. Very fine details are checked in the design preview.
External light
If a flat cut logo should be visible at night, a well-placed spotlight is often enough.

Free design previewWhich thickness for flat cut acrylic letters?
Thickness decides how much edge and shadow your logo shows on the wall. As a guide:

If you need even more depth, 3D letters at 1–10 cm are the right choice.
Designing the reception wall
A good reception wall has a clear hierarchy: the logo is the star and everything else steps back. It works well to set the logo in the thickest material and strongest colour, and the company name or strapline one step thinner and quieter. You can mix materials too, say a gold-look logo with a matte black line underneath.
The wall plays its part. On light plaster, dark letters look strongest; on concrete or dark timber, white, gold or brushed aluminium stand out more. The design preview shows the combination on a photo of your wall before anything is cut.
Acrylic letters or vinyl lettering?
Vinyl is cheap, but it stays flat and looks like a sticker up close. Acrylic letters have a real edge and cast a shadow, so they look more premium. That makes the difference in a reception, where visitors stand right in front of the wall. Vinyl is still the right choice for glass and opening hours.
How flat cut letters are installed
- Position the template: tape the full-size drilling template to the wall using a spirit level.
- Mark the holes: mark through the template, then take it down.
- Drill and plug: with fixings to suit the wall – plasterboard, brick or concrete.
- Fit the letters: onto the stand-offs, or press them into place for adhesive mounting.
Most tradespeople can do this quickly. If you don't have an installer, we can help you find one near you. If you'd like the logo to light up later, many flat cut letters can be upgraded to halo-lit letters. For real metal, see our stainless steel letters.
