What makes Light Box Signs work

A light box is the classic illuminated sign: a slim aluminum tray with LED modules inside and an acrylic face carrying your logo and text as print or cut vinyl. The result is a uniformly glowing panel that stays readable from a distance after dark.

We build light boxes single-sided for storefronts or double-sided as blade signs – in your size, with your design. Send us your logo and dimensions and we’ll show you how it looks on your building before anything is made.

The face

The entire acrylic face glows evenly, lit by LED modules inside.

Print and vinyl

Your logo and text sit on the face as print or vinyl. Light, translucent colors glow with it; opaque dark areas look dark at night.

Day/night vinyl

If an area should look black by day and glow white at night, we use day/night vinyl.

Cabinet

The aluminum frame and sides do not light up. Double-sided light boxes (e.g. as blade signs) glow on both faces.

Light or dark background?

This is the most important design decision on a light box, and it's often underestimated. With a white or light background, the whole panel glows at night. That's as eye-catching as it gets, but your logo can get lost in a big bright area. With a dark, opaque background, only the lettering and logo glow. At night the sign looks almost like individual channel letters: calmer and more premium.

Our advice: on a busy main street, where your sign competes with lots of other light, a light background is fine. Wherever it should look refined, a dark background is usually the better choice. With day/night vinyl, an area can look dark by day and still glow white at night.

Print or vinyl?

UV direct print reproduces gradients, photos and complex logos precisely on the face. Cut vinyl suits clean lettering and solid areas in brand colors. You'll see which suits your logo in the design preview.

Getting the size right

For legibility, the same rule of thumb applies as for channel letters: about 1 inch of text height per 8 feet of reading distance. The cabinet itself is sized to the space your storefront offers. Measure the clear area above the entrance and leave a margin all around so the light box doesn't look squeezed in. Depth is 8–15 cm (about 3–6 in) depending on size. Long storefront bands are built in sections.

Light box or channel letters?

A light box is the economical choice when there's a lot of text, a detailed logo or photos on the face. And you can refresh it later with a new face. Channel letters look more premium because the facade shows between the characters, but they take more work for long texts.

The two combine well: channel letters on the facade and a double-sided light box as a blade sign, for example. We can also plan the whole frontage as a storefront sign.

Installation and power

The light box is fixed to the wall; on EIFS with special anchors. The power supply is built in and the sign is hardwired by a licensed electrician. Mounting hardware and installation instructions are included. If you don't have an installer, we can help you find one near you.

Light Box Signs – frequently asked questions

How deep is a light box?

Typically 8–15 cm (about 3–6 in) depending on size. Slimmer profiles are possible for smaller formats.

How large can it be?

From about 40 cm (16 in) wide to several meters. Large formats are built in sections.

Light or dark background – which is better?

A light background makes the whole panel glow and gets maximum attention. With a dark background only the lettering and logo glow, which looks calmer and more premium at night.

Can I change the face later?

Yes. On most models the acrylic face can be swapped if your branding changes.

How much power does it use?

LED modules are very efficient – a medium light box usually draws under 50 W.

Do I need a sign permit?

Almost always – most cities require a sign permit, plus an electrical permit for illuminated signs. We supply the visual and dimensions for your application.

What do you need for a quote?

Your logo, the size you have in mind and ideally a photo of where it will be mounted.
